Continuing the sporting holiday theme, with this post we are going to take a look a Golf holidays. There are obviously plenty of amazing courses and resorts around the world for you to visit, but is there anything closer to home for us UK based golf lovers.
I was recently told about a great golf resort down in Cornwall, called Lostwithiel hotel and golf resort.
The course is a 6,000 yard par 72 course and was established in 1991, it is a challenge for accomplished players but is also perfect for beginner players who are starting out. As well as the main course there is a range of practice facilities that include a floodlit driving range, putting greens, practice bunkers and an indoor driving range.
The resort also benefits from a fully qualified P.G.A Professional who maintains a fully stocked golf shop, providing golf club hire, trollies and golf buggies.
So with a great course, hotel and professional trainers on hand, Lostwithiel looks a great place for a golf hotel within the UK. Not to mention the numerous other activities and places to visit in the area. The resort is also one of the closest forms of accommodation to the Eden project which is a very popular tourist attraction at the moment. They hotel can also provide fast track tickets helping you get into the Eden project.
The Lostwithiel hotel resort sounds like the ideal place for families and couples, great gold course for the golf lovers and then attractions and coastline of Cornwall nearby.

My friend has just come back from a Algarve tennis holiday, he said it was fantastic and that we should write a post about it on the online travel blog.
The Algarve is along Portugal’s sunwashed southern coastline, and gets around 3000 hours of sunshine per year. The amazing weather and relaxed attitude makes it a great place for sports holidays such as Golf and Tennis.
Along with the sports facilities, the coast has over 100 miles of golden sandy beaches which sit alongside the Atlantic Ocean and with the towering red sandstone cliffs, this are is ideal for family holidays and sports holidays.
My friend stayed at the exclusive Vale do Lobo resort which has the Vale do Lobo Tennis academy as part of its services. The academy has 14 hard courts and is set in a pine clad amphitheatre overlooked by the luxurious clubhouse. The academy is ideal for a tennis holiday whether you are a beginner, intermediate or even and experienced player.
The clubhouse has a shop, café, bar with satellite TV, gym, sauna, steam room, massage room and arcade. The swimming pool, surrounded by terraces and sun loungers, is a perfect venue for enjoying an after match drink.
The Tennis Academy, formerly managed by Roger Taylor and David Lloyd Leisure, has hosted a number of major tournaments and still attracts the likes of Tim Henman, Annabel Croft and Jeremy Bates as a holiday venue plus a range of top stars to it’s annual ATP Seniors Grand Champions Event including Bjorn Borg, Jannick Noah and John McEnroe, the 2002 winner.

There are literally hundreds of caravan security devices on the market to make your caravan secure on a camp site. Some are better than others, none will make your caravan totally thief proof but all will tend to make the thief think twice bout stealing your caravan. As with most things in the world you get what you pay for. We advise buying the best you can afford and make sure the thief knows the device is fitted. Bright paint helps and so do the stickers usually supplied with security items. Security devices with a Sold Secure logo on them have been independently tested as being suitable for caravans and trailers. Both The Camping and Caravanning Club and the Caravan Club hold an up-to-date list of Sold Secure approved security products.
HITCH LOCKS
Hitch locks provide a reasonable degree of protection from the opportunist thief. Get one that is manufactured from heavy steel to cover the tow socket fixing bolts. Make sure it has a good lock. Some hitch locks can lock the caravan to the car but ensure it is unlocked when you are actually towing.
Use them on site when Camping in Europe or at short stops. They do not, by themselves, generally offer sufficient security for when the caravan is in storage.
WHEEL CLAMPS
Wheel clamps come in all sorts of qualities. It is a sad fact that generally the easier they are to put on the easier they are for a thief to remove. Buy a good clamp and check that it fits your caravan. With some wheel clamps a clever thief can remove the wheel and the clamp with it.
WHEEL STANDS
If you think that taking the wheels off your caravan will stop caravan thieves you don’t know how tenacious this nasty breed can be. But wheel stands can be a good deterrent, if you make sure they are locked in place. You should check with your insurers that they are happy to let you keep the van on wheel stands.
Sometimes policies call for the van to be fitted with a wheel clamp at all times. Also check in your handbook, some chassis manufacturers recommend axle stands for winter storage.

If you’re taking a trip down to the south-west of England this summer, you’ll have a number of things to consider before planning your trip. For instance, if you’re travelling with a large group of people - say, your family or a big gathering of friends - it might be hard for you to find accommodation that suits your needs. However, renting a holiday cottage, Cornwall is sure to put to rest any accommodation worries you might have - as well as giving you the opportunity to escape the hardships of urban life and explore the countryside in style.
Opt for a holiday cottage in Cornwall, for example, and you’ll be able to enjoy comfortable accommodation in one of England’s most stunning locations. If you’re a fan of nature walks, rent a holiday cottage by the Cornish coast and experience the South West Coastal Path, which will take you along the coastline of Britain’s south-west peninsula. The trail will lead you along some of the most spectacular remote cliffs, beaches, heaths, farms, fishing villages and towns in Cornwall, and provides a fantastic way for visitors to the south-west of England to experience the region’s diversity and stunning scenery.
Cornwall is home to a range of busy towns, so you can be sure that you’ll still be near any basic services that you might need on your holiday. Rent a holiday cottage near Falmouth, for instance, and you’ll be able to access all the amenities that a seaside town offers. What’s more, Falmouth is home to the world’s third largest natural harbour; and tourists staying near the town will also be able to visit the Glendurgan National Trust garden and the National Maritime Museum in Falmouth, which is home to the National Maritime Museum’s small boat collection.

Have you ever wanted a cheap UK based holiday but fancied something different to the normal Butlins / Haven / Camping holiday. Well why not Fly to the isles of Scilly and stay on one their islands. If you haven’t already been or heard of the Isles of Scilly, It’s a cluster of islands that are considered to be part of Cornwall but are sometimes classed as their own area. If you are someone who goes for days out in Cornwall, then taking a day trip to the Scilly Isles can make a great alterative.
Tourism is a big source of income for the islands, with their unique environments and summer climate drawing many visitors throughout the year. There are two main ways of getting to the islands, and that’s by sea or by air. There are a few companies that offer helicopters, planes and ferries to get to the island, one of these being Isles of Scilly Travel.
There are plenty of islands to visit, but most visitors decide to stay on the island of St Mary’s as it has the most amenities and suitable accommodation. Another main island that draws the tourists to it, is Tresco which is an inhabited island that is also run as a timeshare resort. The islands of Bryher and St Martin’s aren’t as tourist orientated as the others but still do have amenities and accommodation if you want to visit the.
All the Islands depend on tourism a great deal and most activities that happen on the islands are to draw tourists in, this is the same as most of Britain. Levels of tourism are very much controlled by the weather and the islands usually shut down in the winter, due to low tourist levels. The highest levels of tourism are as expected in the Summer, but there is also a massive burst of visitors in October due to birdwatchers arriving to see first landing of migrant birds.
Next time you are planning a holiday in the UK or even a Cornwall day trip, why not consider visiting the Isles of Wight.
