Tourists and beach lovers staying in Campsites in North Devon this summer will be pleased to hear that three of North Devon’s beaches have been awarded Blue Flag status. The Blue Flag award is given to beaches in recognition for a range of factors including the water quality, beach condition and facilities of the beach.

There are twelve beaches in total that were awarded the Blue Flag status this year, including Woolacombe, Westward Ho! and the Tunnels Beach in Ilfracombe, all from North Devon. There were a total of seventy one beaches in the whole country that were awarded for their excellent conditions.

Woolacombe beach is no stranger to winning awards and being recognised for its excellence. As well as being awarded Blue Flag status in previous years it has also been awarded the Best British Beach award by the Mail on Sunday in 2000, runner up to the Best Beach award by the Observer in 2000, winner of the Tidy Britain Seaside Award in 2005 and it also won the Independent national charity Environmental Campaigns (ENCAMS) Seaside award in 2003.
