The East Sussex market town of Lewes is preparing to stage its famous annual “Bonfire Night Celebrations” on November the 5th.

This is a unique take on the famous celebrations of England’s historical 1605 gunpowder plot by Guy Fawkes. The town of Lewes celebrates in style with people from in and around Lewes, coming out to either participate or watch the splendour of the lively parade through the centre of the town.

People participating are usually dressed in fancy dress, with colourful costumes, hand held flaming torches, with participants and onlookers jeering and shouting, with beating of drums, while pre-prepared larger than life model effigies are paraded through the streets.

Near the end of this evening’s lively event, the crowds of people head up to the surrounding hills, where several bonfire sites have been prepared. The walk and hill climb is worth the effort, as from there you can see the firework display, as well as other firework displays from the surrounding area.

So if you are looking for East Sussex Hotels or for Rye Accommodation during your stay for the Lewes Bonfire Night Celebrations, you can be sure there will be plenty of choice locally.
