Holidaycaravan owners can use their second home as a source of guaranteed second income, thanks to an assured letting scheme introduced for 2012 by Park Holidays UK.

The 25-strong parks group says it will pay new owners and those upgrading for every week they put into the company’s letting management programme.

The pay-outs will be made regardless of whether or not the unit is actually hired out for caravan holidays.

It means, says director Tony Clish, that caravan holiday home owners can cherry-pick their preferred weeks throughout the year, and earn hassle-free cash for the unused periods:

“Many owners already subscribe to our standard letting programme, and enjoy typical annual payouts of five thousand pounds – and sometimes even double that for top-spec units,” said Tony.

“Our optional new scheme will completely take away the guesswork from what the holiday home will earn. The owner names their opt-out weeks, and we name the guaranteed letting income.

“Even though the assured amount will be slightly less than the standard programme, we estimate that the average size of cheques will be two or three thousand pounds.

“But that figure could rise by quite a bit if owners are happy to earmark additional peak weeks when our rental prices are at their highest,” he added.

The guaranteed letting scheme, said Tony, is likely to have a special appeal to first-time buyers as the income will cover most, or all, of the annual pitch fees for their second home.

Couples who are not tied to the school holidays and tend to stay away for the high-earning peak summer weeks – perhaps to holiday abroad – could be promised an even bigger return.

Park Holidays UK simply requires owner to select their opt-out weeks; the company then takes care of all advertising, bookings, payments, safety checks, and cleaning after guests leave.

The amount guaranteed is payable even if the holiday home isn’t sub-let – and there is even provision for owners to claw back unbooked weeks at short notice if they wish.

Caravan holiday homes at Park Holidays UK are available at its centres in Devon, Dorset, and southern and easternEngland- and start from as little as £5000, rising to £190,000-plus.

“This might appear an unusually generous offer, but demand for rented holiday homes was so strong last year that at times we were forced to block out some weeks on our parks,” said Tony.

“That’s why we are prepared to pay out even on unlet weeks as it allows us to offer everyone holiday availability right throughout the year,” he explained.
