People lucky enough to watch the Barcelona FC play football last night witnessed an evening of football history. While the team gave an enthralling spectacle to 96,000 fans packed into the Nou Camp after smashing 7 goals past Bayer Leverkusen in their Champions League second leg tie, its only one player who is sure to make the headlines.

Lionel Messi is widely considered to be the greatest footballer ever to take a field, with the star constantly surpassing expectations by fans and critics game after game. Last night saw the Argentinean mastermind became the first player in history to score five goals in a Champions League game, netting a catalogue of strikes including two cheeky lobbed efforts leaving the opposing goalkeeper distraught and dejected. Since making his debut for theCataloniaclub back in 2003, he has found the net 228 times in 311 games; 7 goals shy of becoming the highest goal scorer in the clubs history at just 24 years old.
