Olympic RingsA site in Scotland has been chosen to host a set of massive Olympic rings, in what will be a focal point for Olympic celebrations.

The Mound, an artificial hill in central Edinburgh, has been chosen as the preferred destination for the giant 8m (26ft) rings, which will be illuminated at night once they are fully installed.

The UK government’s Department for Culture, Media and Sport have stated that planning permission for the proposed landmark will be made available to the public shortly.

Funded by the UK government, it is hoped the rings will be visible throughout much of the centre of the city, and help mark one of the most eagerly anticipated events of the century in Britain.

With the Olympic rings joining a host of extraordinary landmarks throughout the Scottish capital, it offers yet another excuse to enjoy a break in one of the fine hotels in Edinburgh this year.
