Avid athletes will be flocking toBarcelonanext month, as one of the most important annual sporting events inCataloniais set to return. The Cursa El Corte Inglés 11k proves to be growing in popularity, gaining stature as one of the most prominent events in Europe.

More than 58,000 people battled it out last year, using their stamina and fitness to power out of the starting blocks outside the Plaza Catalunya. The 11K route takes participants through the winding streets of the city, passing important sights and landmarks before the big sprint finish back to the Plaza Catalunya. The men’s event saw another victory for Mohamed Benhmbarka, splitting the red tape with a phenomenal time of 33 minutes 12 seconds and giving the athlete his fourth consecutive victory.  Meritxell Caulduch saw victory in the women’s discipline with a respectable time of 38.58.

The runners will descend upon the streets of the Barcelonaon Sunday 15 April. Registration is still open, so if you happen to be staying in any of the Barcelona hotels during the period, why not bring your trainers along yourself?
