Perhaps more renowned as a vibrant, cultural hub, Edinburgh is situated in the middle of some stunning natural habitats.

One of these, a fragile grassland in the nearby North Berwick Law Reserve, has been granted £145,000 of development funding from the lottery in an effort to help conservation charity Plantlife and their campaign ‘Saving Our Magnificent Meadow’.

The financial boost has been greeted with delight by the charity, with Head of Development and Fundraising Mark Reay commenting: “We’re delighted that the Heritage Lottery Fund has given us and our partner organisations this support.”

According to the charity, 98% of the UK’s meadows and grasslands have disappeared since the 1930’s. Should you be staying in one of the fine Edinburgh hotels this year, be sure to explore some of the stunning surrounding scenery in what is fast becoming a rare commodity on these shores.
