The RAF Leuchars airshow set for returnOfficials have confirmed the RAF Leuchars airshow in Fife will be going ahead this year, in what will be a fantastic fillip for tourism in and around Edinburgh this autumn.

The popular event, which usually attracts 50,000 people a year, was in doubt after the UK government revealed in October last year that the Leuchars airbase was going to be closed in 2013.

But it now looks as though the event could run for a further two years before signing off, with the Red Arrows having already signed up as part of the programme, which is to take place at the base on 15 September.

Delivering the good news, RAF Leuchars airshow director John Greenhowe said: ‘The Red Arrows and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) are firm crowd favourites and we are delighted that they will be joining us on 15 September. That date is recognised as Battle of Britain day so it is particularly appropriate that the BBMF should be part of our display marking the contribution of ‘The Few’ in this very special Diamond Jubilee year.’

It could be a great event to enjoy whilst relaxing on a late summer sojourn in one of our fine Edinburgh hotels.
