If you are visiting the beautiful coastal towns of Scarborough and Whitby this summer, there is a whole host of events and festivals on offer. Here is a brief selection of events to look out for during August if you are visiting the picturesque north coast of Yorkshire.

The Festival of Yorkshire in Scarborough takes place on August 1 – 5, a fantastic five-day festival celebrating all that is great about Yorkshire. The event is part of the county’s arts culture and sport theme for 2012, which offers a host of events, displays, exhibitions showcasing Yorkshire’s vibrant culture, local art and music.

August 2 -5 is the annual Whitby & District Lions 2012 Beer Festival, which is organised to raise money for various charities in the area. This years’ venue for Beer Festival is at The Met at Whitby West Cliff. The festivals’ doors open at 12 noon during the event. Anyone attending will be able to try over 30 real ales, a range of beers and ciders available. Additionally there will also be a selection of locally produced food available throughout the festival.

Next is Whitby Folk Week which is taking place from August 18 – 24, this event is billed as the United Kingdom’s premier folk festival. The Whitby Folk Week offers visitors seven days and seven nights of all the very best in traditional folk music, song and dance from around the British Isles.

So whether you are planning to be based at one of the local hotels in Whitby or possibly looking for Robin Hoods Bay accommodation, you are sure to be well placed for all these fantastic events in Yorkshire.
