Enjoy Whitby and the North York Moors National ParkThe North Yorkshire countryside is a fantastic base for a holiday or a weekend break as the region offers visitors a superb selection of local attractions to enjoy.

Right on the doorstep of Scarborough and Whitby is the North York Moors National Park. This is a fantastic region which is home to one of the biggest expanses of heather moorland in England, which presents anyone visiting the area with an amazingly diverse landscape to discover whilst you explore this special part of UK.

If you happen to be staying in Whitby or just visiting for the day from your Scarborough accommodation, then you must pay a visit to Whitby Abbey. The Abbey was originally built as a monastery and has seen a variety of religious owners over the centuries. This area was regularly raided by the Vikings who attacked and partially destroyed the Abbey, the remains of which stand as a reminder of the town’s historical past.

If you want to discover the local countryside, why not take a trip on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, which runs between Pickering to Whitby. Visitors will be able to step back in time to the days of steam power and enjoy a trip on one of world’s most popular steam heritage railways while you enjoy the magnificent surrounding scenery along the way.

So why not book a stay at one of the hotels in Whitby so you will be able to enjoy the many local coastal walks, but also be well positioned to enjoy the North York Moors National Park which surrounds the town on three sides?
