Tall Ships Festival kicks off in DublinThe tall ships festival in Dublin has officially started, as the city’s docklands prepare to welcome up to one million people over the next few days.

A fleet of nearly 50 vessels are set to sail up the River Liffey, a distinctive feature of Dublin’s vibrant city centre, as part of the four day festival which marks the end of the Tall Ships Race 2012.

Lining up along either side of the river, the ships will be open for tours as part of the festival, whilst food stalls, street theatre, concerts and range of other exciting events will be taking place all around the Docklands.

Around 1,400 volunteers have been hired for the event, which is hoped will do wonders for the city’s burgeoning tourism industry.

It’s not too late to catch the festival, and a last minute break to one of the fabulous hotels in Dublin could be a great excuse to take advantage of the bank holiday weekend.
