One of the Scottish capital’s leading art galleries could undergo a comprehensive expansion as part of multi-million pound proposals, it has been revealed.

In an effort to bring the Fruitmarket gallery up to modern-day standards, a forthcoming study will look at the possibility of a three way expansion – above, below and eastwards – according to Fiona Bradley, director of the Fruit Gallery.

A design competition is being held next year provided arts agency Creative Scotland respond positively to a request for funds by the gallery.

The prospective developments could represent the biggest project for a contemporary art gallery in the city centre since 2008 and will add yet another thing to explore whilst enjoying a break in one of the excellent Edinburgh hotels.

Boasting an array of excellent cultural institutions, the Scottish capital has always attracted lovers of the arts and is a popular destination for thousands of holidaymakers throughout the year.
