Mount Snowdon is certainly beautiful to look at as well as being exciting to climb, and this is exactly why people looking for a holiday in the UK often search for Snowdonia holiday cottages. Snowdon can be as dangerous as it is beautiful, though a new scheme has certainly helped the Welsh mountain become not only a beautiful place, but a safe place too.

A new safety scheme was rolled out across the hills and peaks of Snowdon which involved placing location markers on various styles and gates. The markers are bright blue yet do not detract from the beauty of the natural surroundings as they are placed on pre-existing objects.

On the blue disc is a six figure grid reference as well as two initials which aid navigation for those who have a map on them and remember some of their map-reading skills, particularly in tricky weather conditions.

The scheme has already proved to be incredibly helpful. Just last month a group of 3 walkers became disorientated on the summit ridge of Cader Idris after losing the main footpath in poor visibility conditions. They managed to find one of the markers on Craig Cwm Amarch but did not have a map to navigate themselves, instead alerting the Aberdyfi Search and Rescue Team of their exact position.

This added safety measure is good news for anyone hoping to climb Mount Snowdon and its surrounding peaks whilst staying in North Wales self catering cottages; in fact, it gives walkers even more reason to give Snowdon a go, just remember to be prepared.
