Paris exhibition examines work of photographer Gustave Le GrayAn exhibition has opened at a Paris museum exploring the work of Gustave Le Gray – billed by many observers as ‘the most important French photographer of the nineteenth century’.

Aptly titled Modernism or Modernity: Photographs From the Circle of Gustave Le Gray (1850-1860), the display is running at Le Petit Palais in the French capital until 6 January and examines 160 pristine prints – some of which may never have been seen before – produced by the innovative photographer throughout his celebrated life.

Renowned for his original techniques and brilliant imagination he brought to the art of picture making, Le Gray was also a teacher of other noted photographers, a factor that is also explored in the exhibition.

Just one of many fascinating displays and events taking place throughout the European capital of culture, it represents an interesting day out for any of those planning a winter sojourn to one of the idyllic Paris hotels.
