In a dramatic turn of events for Hillend Ski Centre in Edinburgh, the facility played host to the British Universities Dry Slope Championships on the weekend.Hillend Ski Centre in Edinburgh

The facility, which was widely thought to be heading for closure only two years ago, has been transformed into one of the leading venues of its kind to be found anywhere in Europe. The competition was the first to take place at the venue since the completion of a sizeable upgrade of facilities. Believed to have cost around £500,000, the Hillend ski centre now has more than 200 metres of extra slope as well as benefitting from a nursery slope and lifts, officially becoming the longest dry ski slope to be found in Europe.

With over 1,000 competitors battling it out in disciplines which included giant slalom, freestyle and Big Air, organisers are hoping that it could lead to similar events being held at the venue in the future. If you are looking forward to a stay in any of the hotels in Edinburgh in the coming months, why not come and discover the Hillend Ski Centre for your self?
