Louvre Museum welcomes record visitorsOfficials at the Louvre museum in Paris have confirmed that the institution has become the most visited in the world, with a record 8.8 million people visiting the attraction in 2011, figures showed.

Beating its 2010 figures by an impressive 5 per cent, the museum believes the overall increase owes to a ‘strong growth in visits’ from the US and an ‘increasingly notable presence’ of visitors from developing countries.

The Venus de Milo and the Mona Lisa represent just two of hundreds of priceless and unique works of art that take residence in the Louvre, which help make it one of the most popular cultural attractions in the world.

Should you be planning a cultural break to one of the excellent hotels in Paris over the coming months, be sure to check out the range of other museums and galleries available to explore with your loved ones and enjoy a memorable vacation in one of the most romantic cities in the world.
