Taking a half mile journey from Islington to Edinburgh airport, the service will welcome a host of government officials, including Transport Minister Keith Brown. The tram is, however, still very much a work in progress, with only the first two miles of the track completed to allow links between the airport and the rural region of Gogar, just to the west of the Scottish capital.
The service, which will cover an area of eight miles when completed, is expected to be open to the general public from the summer of 2014; it will offer a fantastic transport service which both city residents and those staying in any of the hotels in Edinburgh can benefit from. However, with city council transport convener Lesley Hinds hinting the service could be open sooner, the wait might not be as long.
