What to consider when camping

campsite and campingCamping can be great holiday for all of those who decide to experience what the outside world has to offer. It can also be a cheap alternative to hotels and B and Bs, however there are a few things that you will need to think about before setting out to your camp site destination.

Keeping the cost down is an important part of the experience if you are on a budget and if you are travelling with a group of friends or in large numbers then cooperation from those who are going is an important part. It might be worth while considering setting up a cooking rota if you choose to stay onsite and eat cooked food for evening meals or breakfasts; you don’t want to be branded as the cook for the entire duration of the trip. It there is going to be a communal eating arrangement, it might be worth while getting everyone to throw in a few pounds towards food before you turn up on site. This will allow you to get some food from a supermarket on the way to the camp site and ensure you stock up on all of the essentials. There maybe some goods that you might find will be unnecessary to buy as you won’t use a lot of some things, like: salt, pepper, sugar, cooking oil and margarine are probably best if you manage to get some from home before you leave.

Another worth while idea might be issuing people with certain task and distributing some of the responsibility. Get them to bring their own plates and cutlery and get them to provide food for their own lunches.  Set out set dinner times for breakfast and evening meals so people know what time to be back and ready for food.

Each person should be responsible for their own sleeping equipment; this will free you of any burden from that ‘mother’ role. Obviously this wont work if your are a family and have with you small children.

It might be advisable to book a ‘group site’ or if that is not achievable try and obtain several camping spaces together. This way you be able to ensure that your party is not distributed through out the site.  It will also be worth while checking with the campsite how many vehicles will be allowed to park near your designated camping area.

The evenings will provide a great time to relax and unwind with your friends. Around the campfire will be a great time for sharing scary stories and ‘the most embarrassing moment’ stories.

Camping is really a great way to socialise with your friends and family in a beautifully natural environment and really relax at the pace that you deserve.

Should You Consider Camping and Campsites?

So you are considering going camping for a holiday destination but you’re not quite sure. Would the family/ partner enjoy the camping experience?  You don’t have to be a seasoned professional to undertake the camping experience either. Many campsites cater for the professional as well as the amateur.

People are choosing to go camping in France as this offers many great opportunities like the chance to experience a different culture. It is also a destination that is obtainable by ferry making it a low cost way of making the trip. As cost factors in to the majority of our activities camping is on the increase, especially with families on a budget and is proving to be popular for friends to take a holiday together that suits all levels of income. The cost can also be under the price of a hotel room.

The camping experience can provide many benefits that may have been over looked. A camping break can deliver a holiday of reduced stress allowing you and your family to unwind in relaxing and unique surroundings. The holiday also allows you to be closer to nature which provides you with the opportunity to go hiking, cook food on an open camp fire and many campsites offer the chance to fishing in local rivers and streams. You have the freedom of choice on a camping holiday and if you choose to sleep under the stars, so be it.

Camping is also a great time for families to get closer together and what family would be complete without the family pet? Many campsites welcome dogs and the surroundings provide an excellent place to take the pet for a walk. You will also find that no two places are the same and offer unique experiences where ever you decide to go.

The affordability of camping allows families to travel from one place to another cheaply making each trip affordable. Camping provides the freedom to choose many campsites over Europe from lake sides to mountain sides camping has something to offer for everyone.

Camping tips for the winter

camping in the winter

Most people tend to think of camping holidays as happening during the warmer summer months. But many people like to brave the weather and try a spot of winter camping. In this blog post we will cover some tips and advice that will hopefully make your winter camping trip go smoother.

Obviously you need to keep warm and one of the best ways to do this, is by wearing layered clothing. This allows you to adjust the amount you are wearing that will regulate temperature and body moisture. Fleece or body warmers are ideal as a bottom layer, working your way up to a waterproof outer layer. Cotton clothes aren’t really recommended as they lost their insulating qualitative once wet.

All footwear should be waterproof, especially if you are planning on going for walks in the area. Heat escapes from you head, so you should a woolly hat or balaclava. A balaclava will also protect your face and neck from cold winds.

One misconception is putting on too many socks. If you end up restricting the blood flow to your feet, they will feel cold no matter how many you have on. This same principle can be used with gloves; don’t wear too tight gloves as they will have the same effect. If you are going to a wet area, you should take extra gloves and socks as you will need them if they get wet during the day.

When it comes to food you should take plenty of carbs to keep the body warm. Care should be taken in that food should be easy to prepare in cold conditions and simple to eat. Keeping yourself hydrated is important, as dry winter air has the habit of dehydrating you without you knowing. Water is used by the body to create heat so it is important to keep an eye on. You can stop water from freezing by using insulating covers.

The tent you use for your camping trip should be carefully chosen, as some may not be sturdy enough to handle strong winds, and may have ventilation that will let the cold in. Select a campsite with spots that are sheltered if possible, tarps between trees can also be used to help block wind.

There are a lot of other factors that you need to take into consideration when winter camping. We will have another blog post next month discussing the matter further. Good Luck.

Forests: a new take on camping

new forest

When most people think of a traditional camping holiday, they picture it in a big field surrounded by loads of other tents. But one of the things we benefit from in the UK is some wonderful forests that can be used for camping.

Forests and woodlands allow you to have a wonderful scenic trip that allows you to explore the forest during your stay.

Forest Holidays have camp sites within woodlands, in Scotland, Wales, North Yorkshire, Norfolk, Wiltshire and the New Forrest. Many of the sites having trained site rangers to help you enjoy the forest with tour guides and activities.

Forest based holidays are ideal for camping trips for families and young couples. Bikers will love the picturesque trails that run through the forests and if you fancy something slower, you can take the paths by foot.

So next time you are planning a camping trip, why not consider a forest based site to add a new twist to your camping experience.
